Entertainers' Bios
~~SATURDAYS~~~ In just two years SALSABROSA has become one of the premier Salsa acts in the Midwest. Their explosve Afro-Cuban rhythms, mesmerizing vocal harmonies, and cut loose horn solos bring even the shyest audiences to their feet. The band has an extensive repertoire of Latin styles including Cha Cha Cha, Bolero, Merengue, Salsa, and Salsa-Hip Hop. Salsabrosa's performances are always a powerful celebration of the marvelously diverse community that our country has become.
VIVIANA PINTADO, vocals & piano, is an international performer who has recorded with Albita Rodriguez on the Grammy-nominated Una Mujer Como Yo. She has performed on tours throughout North America, South America, Central America and Europe. She was featured in the 1995 film Dance With Me, starring Vanessa Williams. Since moving to MN in 2003, Viviana has been playing with literally dozens of local Latin groups.
FRANK RIVERY, vocals & congas, says "I was born to play music!" Frank, who hails from Havana, is an international performer locally known for his charismatic stage presence and conga solos.
ERIC WANGENSTEEN, trumpet, is first call trumpet for many national and local acts in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara. He has been Bette Midler's lead trumpet player on her three Kiss My Brass tours. He has also been a pilot since age 16 and was one of the youngest commercial pilots in the country at age 18.
ANDREW TURPENING, timbales, is a drummer and percussionist specializing in Latin styles, particularly music from Cuba. He has extensive musical training in Cuba and Spain, including seven months of study at Havana's premier music school, The Superior Institute of Art. Andew is a multiple award-winning composer and producer. He is the creator of Voices in the Streets (www.voicesofthestreets.org), a website exploring the relationship between activism and music and featuring the voices of disadvantages populations. He is also an experienced drum and percission instructor of children and adults.
